When Van Morrison's Them split up, two bands took their place: Alan Henderson kept the Them name and moved to America, while the McAuley brothers moved back to Ireland, recruited Mike Scott and Ken McLeod, then returned to London and met U.S. singer-songwriter and producer Kim Fowley, who named them Belfast Gypsies. Their début single was a primitive slice of snarling garage R&B called 'Gloria's Dream' that bore more than a passing resemblance to Them's 'Gloria'. They split up after only one year, in late 1966.
